Early Years Foundation Stage:
The government guidelines for EYFS changed in September 2012. This forms the basis of my inspection visits from Ofsted to ascertain the quality and care I provide to your Child. This is a summary of how I will incorporate these guidelines with your childs learning journey. A copy of the new EYFS Statutory Framework (Sept 2012) is available here. There are seven areas of focus for your childs learning and development which focuses on ensuring that your child/children are ready for reception year at school. These seven areas are further broken down to 3 Prime Areas and the Four Areas where the 3 Prime Areas are supported.
3 Prime Areas
Communication and Language - Physical Development - Personal, Social and Emotional Wellbeing
4 Areas supporting the 3 Prime Areas
Literacy - Mathematics - Understanding of the World - Expressive Art and Design
Communication and Language
I will give opportunities to experience a rich language environment, develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
I will provide opportunities for your child/children to be active and interactive, to develop their co-ordination, control and movement, and understanding the importance of making healthy choices.
Personal, Social and Physical development
I will encourage your child/children to develop a positive sense of wellbeing both for themselves and others around them. To develop healthy positive relationships and respect for themselves and others around them. Your child will also be encouraged to learn how to manage their emotions and understand what is appropriate behaviour in different circumstances and situations. Most importantly I will work to develop your childs confidence in their own abilities.
Your child/children will be encouraged to link sounds and letters with the aim of helping them to begin to read and write.
Your child will be encouraged to improve their counting, understand the use of numbers, simple addition and subtraction and to be able to describe shapes, spaces and measures.
Understanding the world
I will help your child/children to make sense of the physical world around them as well as their community. This will be achieved through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Expressive Art and Design
Your child/children will explore and play with a wide range of media and materials and I will provide opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role play and design and technology. It is important for me to focus on the above areas to ensure that your child is given the best care and attention. However, the most important aspect of what I do is to allow your child to develop at their own pace and to ensure that all areas are covered through playing and exploring, active learning and creative thinking. I aim to cover all requirements through a happy and stress-free environment whilst ensuring that your child is happy and stimulated. They will have a learning journal which you are welcome to view at any time (upon request). This will be updated and your childs progress will be recorded through observations and photographic recordings to ensure that your child is reaching their own goals and to regularly ensure that all children in my care are reaching their potential.
